The reporter went to the scene today to follow the Warriors' 98-79 victory over the Clippers today, and attended the press conference after the game. The following is part of Butler's interview compiled by Xiaoba.
Reporter: Did you talk to Horford when he was making decisions in the offseason?
Butler: No, we had many tough battles in the Eastern Conference before, and they were really exciting battles. So when I knew he was coming, I knew he was going to help us in a big way. If I remember correctly - his record against me seems to be a complete victory.
Reporter: Jimmy, one more question - you just clearly emphasized communicating and talking to him. Did you take the initiative to contact him during the offseason or during some negotiations to make sure that he could truly hear and understand your thoughts and expectations for him?
Butler: Yes. In fact, many people are supporting him, and I am one of them. There are a lot of people on the team — including the coaching staff — who also want him to get better.
It’s okay to make mistakes, the key is to learn to listen. Sometimes I might not say it exactly the way he wants to hear it, but I tell him I promise it's all with good intentions. No one was blaming him.
He is very happy and confident now. He knows that he is playing well and knows that each of us hopes that he can maintain this state. And I will make sure that he continues to maintain that energy and focus.
Horford played 20 minutes and 29 seconds off the bench today, making 1 of 5 shots, 0 of 3 three-pointers, 2 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal, with a plus-minus of -12.
