In an interview, the 22-year-old Atletico Madrid player Giuliano Simeone talked about his last name, the Argentina national team, Atletico Madrid and other topics.
Your father Simeone is a famous Argentine player and the current coach of Atletico Madrid. Does this last name stress you out?
The surname Simeone is my pride and I am happy to be a member of this family, together with my father and my brother.
You have played 9 times for the Argentina national team and scored 1 goal. Do you hope to follow in your father's footsteps?
Both my father and brother have achieved great achievements, and I hope to emulate them. I want to get my name to the top of the football world.
How does it feel to play for Atletico Madrid?
I am happy here every day. I hope to play here for many years like Cork, who is a role model for our academy players.
What is your dream?
My dream is to win the championship with Atletico Madrid and represent the Argentina national team in the World Cup. Learn from the best and keep improving on a football and personal level.
On April 20, 2022, Atletico Madrid drew 0-0 with Granada. You made your debut for Atletico Madrid’s first team in that game.
I will always remember that day. I had been on the bench many times before that, always wondering if I would get playing time and realize my dream. I remember the moment of my debut, my ears were ringing and I felt so nervous and so excited. But when I walked onto the field, I just wanted to run forward. It was a night I will always remember.
Who is your role model?
Griezmann.
How do you prepare for each game?
I do a lot of work on the mental level and analyze my opponents carefully and watch their game videos before games, especially those players I have to face on both ends of the floor. I start preparing two days before the game because I always want to compete at 100%.
Do you still remember your time in the River Plate youth training camp when you were a child? You played there until you were 16 years old
I rose through the River Plate youth academy and trained with the reserve team. I remember spending time there with friends and family...My childhood was closely linked to Argentina.
