Recently, when the Lakers inside Josh Powell was a guest on the "Talk Les Show" podcast, he talked about Kobe's death in a helicopter accident.

"Whenever I think of the death of this old teammate, I always feel particularly heavy, because my birthday was the day before the accident. I was very sad when I just celebrated my birthday but learned about this bad news. He was a wonderful person and influenced many people. I am very grateful to him. Here I hope that everyone will not just mourn Kobe and his daughter, but also respect the other victims at that time, because there were several people missing in total. Many times we only talk about Kobe and GIGI, and always remember them, but rarely mention other passengers. I don't want to refer to anything, but I hope to express my condolences to others. We should also care about the families of other victims." Powell said.

The nine victims of the helicopter accident on January 26, 2020 were: Kobe and Gianna, former Brewster Whitehall coach John Altobelli, his wife Kerith and daughter Alyssa, private elementary school women's basketball coach Christina Mauser, pilot Ara Zobayan, Jaina's teammate Payton Chester (13 years old), and Payton Chester's mother Sarah Chester.
